INPATH ENGINEERING

iNet leverages the Junpier SSR Platform as the foundation of our INPATH solution. The SSR’s (Smart Session Router) session-aware networking responds proactively to failures, enabled by the tunnel-free network architecture. Tunnel-based architectures have slower failover times because setting up a latent secondary tunnel takes time. For latency-sensitive traffic such as video conferencing, even a delay of a few seconds can seriously impact the user experience. To avoid this, tunnel-based architectures sometimes run a hot standby tunnel, which is expensive to maintain. With the SSR’s tunnel-free session smart networking, if the link SLAs are not being met, the routers will instantly migrate traffic to alternative paths.

Less Overhead

Most solutions use tunnel-based methods that incorporate tunnel / encapsulation into the delivery, increasing bandwidth usage and potentially leading to 30%-50% overhead due to headers. Juniper SSR utilizes Secure Vector Routing, a tunnel-free approach that minimizes bandwidth impact and recovers the 30%-50% overhead.

Bandwidth Savings

The tunnel-less approach, avoiding the overhead of IP-SEC tunneling, gives in general a 20% bandwidth saving based on our existing live site analysis. This will give an immediate BW saving for the LEO solutions which is generally priced per GB.

Efficient Encryption

The tunnel-less approach does not compromise the security of the solution. The Zero Trust Encryption mechanisms ensures a solution that adheres to the most stringent security requirements. The Session Smart Router encrypts all traffic that needs encryption. However, it offers an adaptive encryption feature that avoids “double encrypting” already encrypted traffic. By some estimates, up to 95% of network traffic is already encrypted, and double encrypting traffic, which often occurs in tunneled environments, is costly and can hinder network performance.

Zero Trust Approach

SSR not only saves bandwidth, but also follows a Zero Trust Methodology. All communication is disabled by default, meaning that any communication paths need to be actively configured.
